Class VI Courtyard and Outfitter Store.
Nothing illustrates more graphically how far Class VI has come than our basecamp. When we started 30 years ago we hauled a 1956 Safeway trailer onto the property to use as an office/check-in/store "facility". We set up two army surplus tents nearby to use as changing rooms. That was it!

Smokey's Open airTimber-frame Pavilion
My, how we have grown! Now when you arrive, you will find a comprehensive complex of beautifully designed and constructed buildings that reflect our natural aesthetic. We have paid great attention to landscaping, choosing to use only indigenous plants.

Downstream view from Smokey's Lower Deck
In recent years we've been able to turn our attention to lighting our entire complex properly and developing fun kid play areas. Thanks to one of our longtime guides, Denny Wade (a gardener of the greenest thumb) and Angie (CVI reservationist and fab landscaper), you'll find many of the same plants found along the river and beautiful flowers accenting our walkways and buildings

Dining on the Deck at Smoky's on the Gorge
We are most proud of two of our recent additions: our bathhouse and our timber frame pavilion that now houses our restaurant, Smokey's on the Gorge. The high quality of these facilities illustrates our willingness to give you the best experience possible. Our bathhouse features heated floors, spacious changing areas and immaculate showers with endless hot water. Smokey's on the Gorge is housed in a stunning 3,200 sq. foot timber frame pavilion that is surrounded by 9000 square feet of deck ensuring that our guests have a first class view to accompany their first class meal. Be sure to spot the many whimsical sculptures of recreating birds by West Virginia artist Mark Blumenstein.

Kids enjoying Chetty's Pub
You'll notice that you don't always see photos of other companies' base camps on their websites. That's because they don't have as much to show you. It has taken us 28 years to get our basecamp to look as good and work as well as it does now, and we are really proud of it. You asked for it and now we’ve got it. That's why we show it off!
