Mountain Biking Magazine recently rated West Virginia as one of the top five mountain biking destinations in the country. Here in the New River Gorge area we can boast an extensive trail network that varies from technical single track for the experienced rider to mellow fire road cruising for the beginner.

West Virginia was recently rated as one of the top five mountain biking destinations in the US by Mountain Biking magazine. Trails and tours are geared toward beginning riders-and something the whole family can do together. More advanced rides can be arranged as well. Full and half day rides courses are available through our choice outfitter Ridge Rider Mountain Biking.

What Should I Wear? You will get dirty—that’s part of the fun!

  • Old shirts (you can layer depending on the weather)
  • Riding shorts or regular shorts (jeans not recommended)
  • Sturdy shoes or sneakers (no sandals will be permitted)
  • Windbreaker in rainy or windy weather
  • Helmets will be provided and required to be worn at all times.

What Else Should I Bring? A good attitude and a sense of adventure for starters.

  • Sunglasses and straps (good for eye protection)
  • Small cameras (automatic or disposable)
  • Money for gifts and gratuities (if you so desire)
  • Change of clothes (we have showers and changing rooms)

What Should I Expect On a Half-Day Ride? A hoot of a time!

  • Cover approximately 10-14 miles
  • Miles of single track along the New River
  • Stops at points of interest (historic Thurmond and other historic mining ruins)
  • Total trip lasts approximately 3 hours
  • Bikes, helmets and water bottles included
  • Ride rain or shine (spirit of mountain biking)

What Should I Expect On a Full Day Ride? A great tour of the Park.

  • Cover approximately 18-22 miles
  • Fun and aggressive downhill to middle of the Gorge
  • Stops at points of interest including the historic Kaymoor Mine
  • Loads of single track including technical sections through pine forests and river overlooks
  • Total trips lasts approximately 5 hours
  • Catered lunch served on the trail
  • Bikes, helmets and water bottles provided (you keep the later as a souvenir)
  • Ride rain or shine
