Full-Paddle Proposals at Class VI

Thomas Piotrowski and Shauna Sowle have always shared a sense of adventure, and after their recent whitewater rafting trip with Class IV at Adventures on the Gorge, they’ve also promised to share the rest of their lives together.

Tom put down his paddle and popped the question at Miller’s Folly rapid as their raft surfed the wave beside Bloody Nose Rock.

“It really was a great moment and it caught her by surprise,” Tom said.

Shauna of course gave him a kiss and accepted his ring and his hand.

The ring seemed to gain approval from the New River, because it tried to take the jewelry for itself. Luckily, Tom had tied the ring to his swimming trunks, so when he toppled out of the raft at Lower Railroad, the ring made it back to the boat with him safely.

Tom let the guide know of his plans during their trip’s lunch break, and they quickly assembled a plan, choosing the perfect spot and alerting the video boater so he could capture the whole thing on film.

The couple plans to wed in the fall and return to Adventures on the Gorge the following year for Gauley season to celebrate their anniversary.

Tom and Shauna met a few years ago in Detroit when Tom was a police officer and brought recent arrestees in for medical care, where Shauna was the nurse. Their friendship budded from there, and they began dating about a year ago.

We at Class VI and Adventures on the Gorge wish them a beautiful wedding and a long and loving future together!

They aren’t the only couples celebrating their love at Adventures on the Gorge. PJ Price recently posted his proposal photo with Kelly Roehm on the Class VI facebook page.

We love to hear your stories.  If you’ve got a love story that Adventures on the Gorge helped create, please share it with us! And, if you’d like to plan one, we’d love to help!

Run, Run Rooster – Unexpected Guests at Class VI

rooster

By Shea

Never let it be said that the staff at Class VI and Adventures on the Gorge doesn’t have a sense of humor!

There’s proof. And it’s running around the courtyard.

The result of recent hi-jinks, there are suddenly a few roosters swaggering around the Mill Creek and Canyon Rim Campuses.  And yes, they’re crowing.

No one seems to know where they came from, but several people have helped take care of them, feeding the roosters throughout the day.

Hopefully they’ll have a more suitable home soon. But if you spot one of our roosters living large, snap a photo and post it to Facebook. Tag us and we’ll give you a FREE Adventures on the Gorge sticker!

Can’t wait to see your photos…
