Mountain Biking West Virginia New River Gorge - Class VI  MRMountain biking is a great way to spend the a day at the New River Gorge.  A full day offers 6-7 hours riding some of the best mountain bike trails in West Virginia! This trip will have a little of everything!

Start out strong in the morning with the more aggressive part of the trip, then spend the second half of your day descending into the gorge for a nice spin along the New River. Your helmet, bike and water bottles are included!

 

What to Wear: Do not wear any clothes that you do not want to get muddy. Sturdy shoes/sneakers (no sandals please). Old shirts (you can layer depending on weather). Riding shorts or regular shorts (jeans and long pants not recommended). A light windbreaker is also recommended.
 

What else to bring: Camera, sunglasses with straps, sunscreen, insect repellant, and of course your sense of adventure!

Trip Details

A ride from rim to river, this tour has it all! Spectacular views abound as you descend and traverse the Kaymoor-Thurmond trail. Enjoy a quick stop at the abandoned Kaymoor mine site where you can view the remnants of the last underground coal mine in the gorge. About halfway through the trip, refuel with a great picnic lunch. Following lunch, meander along the New River to the historic town of Thurmond and wrap it all up with a visit to the Thurmond Depot. This trip is 18 miles and rated blue (intermediate difficulty).
