Horseback Riding in West Virginia - Class VI MRAny visit to the New River Gorge will be enhanced if seen from a saddle on a fun, friendly, relaxing ride on a well trained four-footed friend.

Regardless of whether you have never been on a horse or are a seasoned rider, horseback riding at the New River Gorge offers a relaxing adventure in spectacular scenery.

The Scenic Horseback Ride

The New River Gorge Scenic ride takes you out to the rim of the New River Gorge on 6000 private acres that go down off of the rim farther into the gorge than the National park trails go. Then we ride out to the New River Gorge and back.     

The Sunset Horseback Ride

This 2 1/2 hour sunset trip is the perfect way to see all the beauty the New River Gorge has to offer! Horseback ride, tell stories and relax on 6,000 private acres of scenic trails.  This is a wonderful way to unwind and watch the sunset!

Trip Details:

  • Departure times are between 4:00 and 6:00 and vary depending on the time of the year. Check your confirmation for meeting times.
  • You will be required to sign an assumption of risk and release waiver. (If a minor's parents will not be present, notify our office to receive an advance copy)
  • Prior to departure professional guides review equipment, trip procedures, trail conditions and possible hazards.
  • What to Wear: Pants and sturdy shoes or boots (no sandals). During the spring and fall the weather may be chilly so a light jacket or sweater is recommended. Ponchos will be provided if it is raining.

Half-day Ride

This 3 1/2 hour ride is a wonderful trip if you have a few hours to fill. You can choose a morning or afternoon trip, depending on what you have planned for your day. West Virginia is known as the Mountain State, and you will find out why. Ride through some of the most scenic trails in all of West Virginia! Learn some of the area's history! Tell stories and, of course, just have some fun. Once you are comfortable with the gentle beasts, you will want to saddle up for more.

Whole Day Ride

Enjoy a WV horseback vacation. This full day horseback trip lasts 5-6 hours and is geared for the rider who likes sitting in a saddle and wants to see much more of the New River Gorge. Let your guides lead you through some of the most scenic horseback trails in the state! About 3 hours into the horseback trip you will stop for a well-earned lunch. Kick back and relax for a bit while your guides cater to you and your group. After lunch ride back to the ranch checking out even more of the Mountain State! If you really love to ride, or would just like to see all that you can, this is the perfect trip for you.

  • A bottle of water with a carrier is provided.

The Family Ride

The Family ride takes a total of is 2.5 hours. This ride is geared to young children that are experiencing their first encounter with a large animal. This ride is great for any age person who is nervous about riding. The first 45 minutes or so is a special lesson designed to remove any fears about large animals and riding them. After the lesson we ride out to the New River Gorge and back. 

New River Overnight

Old-school over-night horseback riding adventures.  We ride out to the beautiful New River Gorge With some great scenery and after 3 &1/2 hours of nonstop riding we pull into camp where the cook has laid out some snacks and cold beverages. Grab your gear and put it in your tent that is set up for you. While you are relaxing the cook is preparing your steak ,chicken , or fish just the way you like it!

After dinner when the sun goes down your guide will tell you true stories and folklore about the area, especially where you are camping! We hang around the open fire and cook s'mores. In the morning you get up to a HUGE country breakfast And then we ride for another 2 hours back to base camp. We supply tents and sleeping pads. Bring your own sleeping bag or we can furnish a clean sleeping bag for a nominal fee.
