Frequently Asked Questions About Our West Virginia Adventure vacations on the New River Gorge
Question: What Should I Wear On My Adventures?
Answer: Be the Onion. No really. Think Onion. Layering is the Name of the Game!
You’ve picked the right West Virginia adventure vacation resort, white water rafting outfitter and outdoor activity guide, made your vacation reservation and chosen your favorite adventures...now what are you going to pack?
Most activities run rain or shine, so don’t sabotage your fun by not bringing the right clothing! West Virginians are fond of saying “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute.” This is true. The weather can sometimes change drastically here in the mountains, in just a matter of hours. There is no reason you can’t be comfortable no matter what the temperature is or what is falling from the sky - you just need to plan ahead. There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear!
Summer is pretty simple. The temperatures are warm (and so is the water if you are rafting or kayaking) so your main concern will be to protect yourself from the sun. A hat, sunscreen and sunglasses with retaining strap are a good start. Sport sandals (no flip flops) or sneakers make ideal footwear for most activities. For water based activities bring a swim suit and a pair of quick-drying shorts as a good base layer. A long-sleeve synthetic shirt or light windbreaker is good to have in case of a sudden shower or temperature change. If you're not on the water, dress appropriately for the activity you will be doing.
Spring and Fall mean a few more layers of clothing. The water and air temperatures are obviously cooler this time of year. You will need to dress appropriately for the activity you will be doing. Rafters and kayakers especially need to be dressed properly - you will be wet all day! Remember, it is better to have and not need, than to need and not have.
At the end of your day. One of the best things about a day of adventure is that hot shower that comes afterwards. Our deluxe shower house has heated floors and plenty of hot water. Don’t forget your bath towel and a complete change of dry clothes. Then, you’ll be ready to relax, sip your favorite beverage and enjoy rehashing your day’s adventure.
