What Is Bridge Day at the New River Gorge?

Bridge Day is West Virginia's largest single day festival attracting 200,000 spectators annually. On Saturday, the New River Gorge Bridge is shut down to vehicular traffic and opened to pedestrians instead! It's a colorful scene of vendors, food, fall foliage, and of course the main attraction.. base jumping!

BASE is a parachuting acronym that stands for bridge, antenna, structure and earth. Bridge Day has become one of the most popular locations for jumpers to get their 'bridge' jump, legally. It is lots of fun watching hundreds of them plummeting off the top of the bridge into a freefall, their colorful chutes filling the sky. Landings are almost as interesting, perhaps more so, as they aim for a postage-stamp-size landing area on the bank surrounded with river, rock and train tracks!

Bridge Day Package 1 (rafting Saturday & Sunday)

With this package, our guests will enjoy rafting through some of America's Best Whitewater on the Lower New, then we'll park near the bridge for some lunch-time thrills and entertainment as we watch the basejumpers! On Sunday, you'll experience the famous Gauley River (choose the Upper Gauley or Lower Gauley section) on this final trip of the season. Two incredible rivers, exciting base jumpers, spectacular fall foliage, meals, live music and camping. It's no surprise this Bridge Day package is one of our most requested!

Package Includes

• 2 nights camping (lodging upgrades are available)
• Full day Lower New trip (Saturday)
• Full day Gauley River trip (Sunday): Lower or Upper
• Riverside deli-style lunch both days
• Transportation from basecamp to the river & back
• 2 breakfasts
• Pig roast BBQ dinner Saturday
• Live music on Saturday night!

Bridge Day Package 2 (rafting Saturday)

On this trip, we'll bypass the pedestrian madness on the bridge and experience a morning of rafting some of the finest whitewater in America, the Lower New River. You'll enjoy a terrific picnic lunch and then we'll pull aside to "ooh and ahh" at the hundreds of jumpers with their colorful parachutes as they float down from the bridge above us. Needless to say, the landing area is about the size of a postage stamp, surrounded by river, rocks and railroad tracks... makes for some pretty good entertainment and a truly unique memory!

• 2 nights camping
• 1-day Lower New trip (Saturday) with riverside deli-style lunch
• Transportation from basecamp to the river & back
• 1 breakfast

Bridge Day Package 3 (rafting Sunday)

With this package, our guests are free to enjoy the festivities on the bridge (Saturday) and then experience whitewater rafting the famous Gauley River (choose the Upper Gauley or Lower Gauley section) on Sunday!  Exciting base jumpers, spectacular fall foliage, meals, live music and camping... it's no surprise why this Bridge Day package is one of our most requested!

• 2 nights camping
• Saturday (on your own: go to the festival!)
• 1 breakfast
• Full day rafting trip on Lower or Upper Gauley (you choose) with lunch - Sunday
• Pig roast BBQ dinner on Saturday night
