Question: What is a videographer?

Answer: Class VI-Mountain River hires employees to fill this position who are skilled kayakers and/or knowledgeable in filming broadcast quality video.  Depending on their skill set, we may even teach them how to paddle class V+ whitewater and how to shoot DVD quality footage!  Either way, each videographer must be capable of paddling major whitewater and it could take over a year of training to become confident enought to paddle our rivers on their own.  They also have to train to learn the best locations to shoot whitewater action shots, filming techniques, emergency camera repair and safety proceedures.  After mastering the river and filming basics, they must then learn the creative side to the program: how to mix a video, add special effects, music and a little humor. In the end, videographers are part entertainer, athlete and artist... we hope you enjoy them, and their work.

Question:
What does a videographer do?

Answer: Each morning, the videographer picks up their camera and loads their kayak/equipment onto our shuttle vehicle.  They begin filming at basecamp, then ride the bus to the river with you (after introducing themselves) and begin documenting your river trip.  Once on the water, they will usually sprint ahead of the trip in their kayak.  Once ahead, they pull over to a strategic spot and film each raft on the trip.  Our videographer tries shoot the major whitewater rapids.  Sprint, film!  Sprint, stop and chat with trip, film!  Sprint, film!  Sounds exhausting, huh?  At the end of the day the videographer returns with the trip and begins editing, mixing and producing a custom video of your day on the river (while you are grabbing a shower, changing clothes, etc.).  About 45 minutes after returning back to our facility, the videographer will premier an entertaining DVD of your whitewater rafting trip on the big screen TV.  High quality DVD copies are available for purchase immediately.  To insure your trip is videoed we recommend pre-pay for your video.

Question:  What does a DVD cost?

Add a prepaid video to your rafting trip. By adding this to your reservation you guarantee that we will make every possible effort to have your trip videoed. Under a few circumstances where a trip is not vidoed your money will be refunded.

Question:
What goes into the cost of the DVD of my rafting trip?

Answer: Each DVD is a one-of-a-kind production of your whitewater rafting trip, literally created from start to finish the same day.  You may be surprised to learn just how much work, talent and skill goes into providing you with this documentary of your rafting experience.  First of all, your videographer's job is very hard and dangerous work.  It takes a unique skill set and personality... not just anyone can walk in and fill this position.   Their equipment is expensive and vulnerable to water damage (yes, we damage a lot of cameras)!  We also invest in high quality mixing equipment that is unique to this business (and which needs to also be updated periodically) so that you may enjoy an entertaining, high quality DVD of your rafting experience for years to come.

If you've ever paid to have your wedding or another special occasion taped and produced onto DVD, you'll clearly see the cost of a whitewater rafting DVD of your trip is a small price to pay to capture a once-in-a-lifetime memory.
