The only thing that could top rafting the Upper Gauley River and then camping at our world class riverside facility is rafting the Upper Gauley Rvier again on the second day!This is a trip for people who want the best of both worlds, fantastic whitewater and deluxe riverside camping, rolled into one.
First, raft through the enormous class V rapids on the famous Upper Gauley. Then camp at our riverside Shangri-la: The Canyon Doors Camp, where everything you need will be waiting on you.
Enjoy a huge gourmet prime rib and salmon dinner under our timber frame pavilion. Grab your favorite beverage and head to one of the fire circles to watch the stars and swap river stories with the guides. Maybe head off to one of the spring-fed, wood fired cedar hot tubs to relax and soak it all in.
In the morning, heated riverside showers await along with a five star breakfast to start the day off right. Soon you'll be on your way to the Gauley headwaters to begin your adventure all over again. If you crave excitement with a giant slice of luxury thrown in, the Gauley Double Upper Overnight is for you.
What To Expect
- This overnight trip rafts the world class Upper Gauley River for 2 days. Class I to class V+ whitewater – Rapids are big, long and powerful and could cause rafts to capsize. Prior rafting experience is recommended.
- Upon arriving you will check-in, enjoy coffee and juice as you pack your personal gear into our truck. Your gear is trucked into the site so you don't have to worry about losing it on the river and you can bring just about anything but the kitchen sink...it is already down there.
- Tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag rentals are available when making a reservation.
- Soft drinks are provided at the campsite. If you have special dietary needs, please let our reservation staff know in advance.
- You'll stay overnight riverside at The Canyon Doors Camp, truly one of the most beautiful places in West Virginia. The next morning after breakfast we will bus you back to the Summersville Dam for another day on the Upper Gauley.
- Hot tubs, hot showers, and bonfire rings are just a few of the amenities provided by Class VI on your trip.
- Class VI provides a limited amount of beer and wine at the campsite. If you would like to bring additional beverages, please make sure to pack it in a cooler or safe container.

Extra Add-Ons
- Class VI tries to video every raft trip. To insure your trip is videoed, we suggest pre-registering when making a reservation or booking online (Options are listed below). Learn more about our video program.
- Whitewater Photography shoots several photographs of each raft during your raft trip. 8X10 photographs are delivered to our facility each afternoon by the time you return. You can purchase a photo or a disk of all your favorite shots at Class VI.
