Smokey's On the Gorge

A Little Bit About Smokey's On The Gorge

Smokey’s on The Gorge is Class VI’s premier dining option (also see Chetty’s Pub). Housed in a showcase timber frame pavilion perched on the rim of the New River Gorge, Smokey’s offers amazing full-service buffets, friendly service and breathtaking views. Optional seating on our outdoor deck offers spectacular views of the gorge and a front row seat to incredible Appalachian sunsets. Smokey’s is certainly not your average dining experience!

Breakfast Buffet

The food is a delightful departure from the usual! Our breakfast buffet offers a wonderful array of foods to get your day off to a wholesome start: ‘made to order’ omelets, homemade waffles & toppings, apple- smoked bacon, carved ham, sausage, grilled red skin potatoes, country gravy, fresh scrambled eggs, fruit, muffins, breads & toppings, juice, coffee and tea.

Lunch

Groups of 20 or more, by advance reservation only.

Dinner Buffet & Salad Bar

The salad bar features a mix of fresh, seasonal field greens and an impressive variety of toppings: domestic & imported cheeses, fresh fruits, garden vegetables, meats, seafood, and homemade, gourmet dressings.

The buffet has a different menu nightly, allowing variety and creative fun for our guests and our chefs. Entrée selections include a variety of grilled meats, poultry, and seafood. Occasionally, traditional Appalachian favorites are also featured in the buffet such as barbecued wild boar ribs, grilled quail, morel mushrooms and rainbow trout. Interesting vegetable dishes, sauces, and pastas are prepared fresh as ideal accompaniments to the entrees. Delectable homemade desserts and Starbuck’s coffee complete your dining experience. Enjoy a glass of wine from our diverse wine list, your favorite cocktail or non-alcoholic beverage.

History

Originally created in 1986 and called Smokey's Charcoal Grill, it was named in honor of Dana "Smokey" Morton, bus driver extraordinaire, who came to Class VI River Runners in 1979 when we purchased a 1954 GMC bus from the old Oak Hill City Lines. Smokey passed away in 1988 yet the spirit of his legend lives on. Some folks reading this will remember Smokey and his long handlebar mustache, warm smile, mischievous eyes and shaved head.

Hours of Operation

These are our normal operating hours. However, Smokey's is a popular setting for weddings, receptions, banquets and other private parties. So don't let these hours fool you - we are very flexible and try our best to cater to everyone. Sometimes that means limiting dining hours for the general public in order to accommodate private parties. If you have a special event and would like to use our services, please contact our reservation staff.
